This past August, I had the honor to sit down and talk to Sohung Tong (he actually goes by Tom =).
Here is a picture of a very tanned ME and Tom at his studio:
Tom designs the edgy collection of clothing for sale at MiUS Collection. Take a look:
It is all handmade in NYC…One of a kind pieces that will make your heart skip and smile while wearing them! But through our discussion, I found that he not only makes epic clothes…he is a visionary, a community activist, and a voice for keeping the NYC fashion district viable in the USA. The conversation at his east village boutique was very fun and comfortable. He seems to be a really down to earth guy with a creative eye on fashion! Tom was born in China, but came to the United States during his teenage years and finished high school in NYC. He then went on to study fashion design at the prestigious Parsons School of Design. After graduating from Parsons, he worked as an assistant designer for a while, but after five years he started his own collection and started selling at The Young Designers Market in NYC. He now runs a collaborative studio and boutique in the East Village where a group of designers come to create and sell their pieces. Tom is also very active in the NY fashion scene, participating in many local events and shows to continually promote the creativity of local American fashion designers.
