MEET THE TEAM:
Millie Karkoff, Owner and Buyer
I am the owner/founder of MiUS Collection. If you read the “About US” page on our website you will know that the idea of opening this boutique came from seeing our friends and family struggle as jobs were outsourced overseas, manufacturers closed and the economies changed in their communities. As a mom, that hit home when thinking about the future of our children and nation…how will their world be in 20 or 30 years…how would the United States of America be in their time?? As consumers, we’ve become accustomed to shopping without looking at labels or educating ourselves as to how these goods were made or where they came and the effects that has on our planet, communities and our future. So armed with that passion, I set out to help make a difference for our industries and communities, by helping influence shoppers every time we make a purchase…thus MiUS Collection was born. So…from my blog posts you will get the inside scoop… I call it “view from our buyer’s desk,” I will feature interviews with our favorite designers, bloggers, consumer information and styling tips.
What should you know about me? I am passionate about life, my family (pets included), love shopping and I’m obsessed with jewelry! I enjoy entertaining, cooking, eating and music ;-)!
Carrie Del Regno, Blog Writer
Hi. I am Carrie, a thirty-something stay-at-home-mom (SAHM-did you know that means “stay at home mom”? who knew?). I have three kids…A is 5, B is 3.5 and C is 2. No, their names are not A, B and C…but you get where I am going with this right? Yes, birth order. And no, I have not yet been committed for being insane with as close as my kids are in age. Not yet anyway…we just don’t answer the door when the guys with the weird white coats arrive. We do however answer when the UPS guy comes…we like him.
I once worked. Now I don’t …since I am a SAHM, I now spend my days with my feet up, eating chocolates, while watching soaps (are soap operas still on? “like sands through the hour glass”….). I have a degree in Child and Family Studies…I concentrated in adolescence and behavior modification…so I have perfect children. During my working life, I worked with kids in non-profit settings, and adults in for-profit settings. I liked the non-profit settings better. I have been at home for five years now…well five years, 4 months and 19 days. “….so are the days of our lives….” My dad has always been a big influence in my life. I will save you all the details…I pay someone to discuss those details…but he was always, and still is, a good role model in my life.
And just because it seems to be a popular blog post…you want to know what makes me tick or what I am obsessed with? Blogs, paper, pens, markers, scrapbooking (I like to call it memory keeping), organizing and reorganizing, and makeup (since becoming a thirty-something).
Lexi Pacheco, Video blogger/writer
Hi! 🙂 My name is Lexi but I’ve come to receive multiple, different, nicknames. Such as Pacheckers, PaCzechRepublic, Pataco, Pistachio, and my personal favorite: YOU! So, at this point, anything works really 🙂 I will be blogging about younger culture and styles I see here in Sunny Florida. Additionally, I am also challenged to completely change my wardrobe to only contain USA made clothing and I’ll have a running video blog on that as well 🙂
Key things about me??? Well, my favorite color is lime green. Not bright bright lime green… more like…. Sour apple green 🙂 It just makes me happy. Oh, I am completely and unashamedly obsessed with cupcakes!! There is specific list of things in this world that will forever have my love and cupcakes are one of those things. My favorite kind? Don’t humor me. A huge staple you MUST know about me? I live on coffee and other forms of caffeine. I love my family and friends. I know it sounds oh-so cliché but I really do. They make my life complete.
Lastly, I love to write. I find it fascinating to pinpoint and recognize a writer’s style of well… writing. Whether that style is borrowed, inspired, or created, each writer is unique in that sense and I can’t wait for you guys to find mine! 🙂 Right off the bat though, I want my readers to know that I write exactly the way I talk. It’s a personal thing for me because I feel like writing is just another form of speech and I don’t want to have 2 forms of speaking to people. I want to remain true to myself.
So, that’s me! I hope I covered everything I need to…. If not… well I’ll cross that bridge when I get there 🙂
Margaret Shirer, Blog Writer
Hey, I’m Margaret. But you can call me Meg or Madge. I spend my weekdays as a Marketing Specialist in the exciting, dynamic, fast-paced world of insurance. The rest of the time, I’m usually hanging out at home with my “spousal equivalent” Bob (yes, that’s his real name – not an alias or a punchline) and our almost-perfect wonder mutt Oliver. We like to take Oliver to a local park, where we hike, admire the scenery, and spend time pulling him away from other dogs he thinks he might like to either play with or kill. I also love spending my time on creative endeavors (painting, sewing, crafting, etc.), as well as cooking, gardening, photography, being outside, having wine or a cocktail with friends, and laughing. What I enjoy best of all is some combination of the above. I love my boyfriend (see “Bob” above), my dog (see “Oliver” above), my family, the sunshine, anything funny, anything beautiful, and oxygen.
I try to be grateful for SOMETHING every day, even when the universe is against me. Some days it’s coffee. Other days it’s as simple as hot running water. And some days… just the fact I can put one foot in front of the other. But one of the things I’m consistently grateful for is the fact that I live in the United States. We have our faults and our problems – and definitely should learn some lessons from Europe on vacation policies – but I sincerely believe we are the most creative, innovative, free-spirited country in the world. I just can’t imagine calling anywhere else home.
One final note about me: someday I aspire to make my fortune by finally inventing a “sarcasm” font. You heard it here first.
