how is it going how there in cyber land?  it has been an odd start to our summer here in northern ohio.  during the last week of school i had the air on and was a hot mess outside.  now?  rain, clouds and under 70.  odd.  but i am not complaining…i am not a hot weather fan.

anyway…this summer is going to prove to be very exciting for our family.  we have purchased a property close to the lake for a weekend/summer home with my parents!  not sure about you…but i love seeing a home come togehter…hate the work.  haha.  although since we don’t have to live there maybe this won’t be as bad.  don’t fret…you will see lots of photos and posts with before and after and projects…but for now…let’s dish on what i should wear to a lake party event…

thumbnail.asp

what screams LAKE more than this mint and blue chevron dress?  and how do you pass it up at only $39.99 (remember i like to purchase everything for under $50).

thumbnail.asp

what fun is this dress?  some different colors and different patterns…this would be unique at a lake party.  and again…$39.99

what about a cooler day?  one of my favorite color combinations is orange and navy.  this dress  ($45.95) screams me (except i don’t love to show my arms…but at least my legs are hidden haha!)

thumbnail.asp

i think this would be a cute necklace  ($32.99) with all the dresses.  i tend to keep my accessories small and light when around sand.

you can find all these and more Made in the USA product at MiUS Collection!  and of course, we are linking this post with lindsey at the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday 🙂

What to Wear? The Wedding

12 Apr

This post is the final post of the “what to wear?” wedding series.  The wedding!  There are so many styles of weddings out there it is almost impossible to capture all in one blog post, but I will attempt to address style dilemmas for the most common scenarios.  So…which way to go first:

images-6

Let’s start with the “unwritten” rules of wedding etiquette, according to The Knot.com here are some “Dos and Don’ts” for weddings:

  • Don’t wear white because it competes with the bride. There are plenty of other colors available. This rule may seem outdated, but it’s actually just good etiquette to not compete with the bride on her special day.
  • Don’t wear black or sequins during the daytime. Anything too sparkly will make you look overdressed.
  • Don’t worry about wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids or mothers. You can’t possibly coordinate with everyone in the wedding party.
  • Do wear something feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts. Clubwear, overtly sexy clothing (strapless, see-through, etc) doesn’t belong at a wedding. If you have to ask if it’s appropriate, it probably isn’t.
  • Don’t wear opera-length gloves (to top of arm) with anything but sleeveless or strapless gowns.
  • Do take off gloves to eat or drink.
  • Do use good judgment if the invitation doesn’t specify the formality of the event. A pastel suit or soft floral dress for daytime or a LBD for evening (after 6 p.m.) will take you almost anywhere.
  • Even at a casual wedding, use good judgment when it comes to getting dressed. Casual can mean a pretty sundress (like for a coastal or beach wedding) but rarely means something as sloppy as jeans or shorts.

OK…Now that we have the Dos and Don’ts here are my style suggestions for wedding receptions based on the type:

  • Informal Daytime: Short dress or suit (business attire OK for morning weddings)
  • Informal Evening: Cocktail dress (which is any dressier dress — for example, a LBD– that’s not full-length.)
  • Semi-Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit
  • Semi-formal Evening: Cocktail dress
  • Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit. Hats and gloves optional (although it’s rare to see hats and gloves at most weddings.)
  • Formal Evening or Black-Tie: Long or dressy short cocktail (beading, glam accessories, wrap)
  • Ultra-formal or White Tie: Long gown, extra glitz (furs, diamonds, etc.)

Here are some of my picks from MiUS Collection boutique:

Informal-day time wedding:

linking up again this week with lindsey from the pleated poppy for what i wore (or in my case…what i should wear ) wednesday.

What to wear to a wedding: Part 1- the SHOWER

18 Mar

So wedding season is close upon us and invitations for the bridal showers, bachelorette parties and ceremonies begin to hit our mailboxes. You may be in need of some inspiration on what to wear for those events. Well, no worries, we have some options for you at MiUS Collection.

In today’s post we’ll focus on the wedding shower attire. First let’s start with some general rules of thumb when it comes to dressing for a bridal shower. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Let the bride-to-be wear white. It’s a subtle way to let her shine on her big day. Personally, I would even steer away from creams and ivory as well. Nude shades and white dresses with colorful prints are fine, but solid whites should be reserved for the star of the show: The Bride!
  2. Stay away from red. It may seem trite, but red is considered to be a “vulgar” hue associated with adultery. Not exactly appropriate for celebrating your friend’s upcoming nuptials! LOL Red is also a “look-at-me” color. Again, let the bride bask in the spotlight.
  3. Try not to wear black. This is a completely my personal opinion, but I wouldn’t recommend wearing black to a bridal shower. It reminds me of mourning. Instead, wear a pretty color or print to show optimism for your friend’s new beginnings.

Well that’s it for bridal shower wardrobe etiquette! Now for the fun part… Here are my top picks from MiUS on what to wear to a bridal shower:

thumbnail.aspthumbnail.aspIMG_4418_1360628906IMG_2576_1360022027IMG_1561IMG_4836_1352933007

Try one of these cute frocks paired with a nice cardigan and heels or pretty flats…

What do you think?  Which one is your favorite?

13 Mar

can you believe st. patrick’s day is already this weekend?  what do you have planned?  our kiddos get to go to their (non-irish) grandparents the night before so the husband and i are heading out for dinner and cocktails…or maybe just a movie and pizza at home…what to do when your kids aren’t home?!

i am not irish.  but my children are.  despite the italian last name….my husband is almost all irish.  so on st. patrick’s day, i, like everyone else all over the world, am irish.  so i guess it’s time to put on some green no?  i am linking up with lindsey from the pleated poppy for what i (should) wear wednesday.

6 Mar

i am back with wiSww.  it’s freezing here again.  while i love winter…and i actually prefer cold over hot…i am ready for the “dirty” part of this season to be over.  specifically the salt on my car and the dirt on my shoes.  ha ha..i am so anal.

anyway…i will say that i know everyone is getting ready for spring…and i know target already has out bathing suits (seriously?!?!)  but i am going to post an outfit today that i would wear TODAY…a day that is chilly with a chance of snow.  yay!  i like snow…i just don’t like what happens when it melts…

anyway…

since i am still freezing…i would start with the basic black cardi ($24.99)

basic black cardi

and since it is march and we are all starting to want to see a little more color, i would pop this tank ($29.99) under it to brighten it up some but still be warm with the cardi…

coral chevron cardi

and i am loving the new boyfriend jeans ($45.99)…so even though they might catch a breeze or two…they look comfy so i would have to toss them on (oooooh…maybe a cute pair of coral or black tights under the jeans for extra warmth?? i might now be showing my own sense of (non) style….

boyfriend jeans

if its really cold…i can toss on my black snood  ($32.99) and i am ready to roll!

black snood

on a side note…though i might wear it with this outfit because i love it so much and wear it all the time…i got this bracelet at the last trunk show!  love to wear it with my rose gold watch or my white watch.

bracelet

all items (except the bracelet) can be found in our fab finds under $50 boutique and as always…all items are made in the isa!

linking up with lindsey at the pleated poppy for her wiww posts!

happy hump day!
