how is it going how there in cyber land?  it has been an odd start to our summer here in northern ohio.  during the last week of school i had the air on and was a hot mess outside.  now?  rain, clouds and under 70.  odd.  but i am not complaining…i am not a hot weather fan.

anyway…this summer is going to prove to be very exciting for our family.  we have purchased a property close to the lake for a weekend/summer home with my parents!  not sure about you…but i love seeing a home come togehter…hate the work.  haha.  although since we don’t have to live there maybe this won’t be as bad.  don’t fret…you will see lots of photos and posts with before and after and projects…but for now…let’s dish on what i should wear to a lake party event…

thumbnail.asp

what screams LAKE more than this mint and blue chevron dress?  and how do you pass it up at only $39.99 (remember i like to purchase everything for under $50).

thumbnail.asp

what fun is this dress?  some different colors and different patterns…this would be unique at a lake party.  and again…$39.99

what about a cooler day?  one of my favorite color combinations is orange and navy.  this dress  ($45.95) screams me (except i don’t love to show my arms…but at least my legs are hidden haha!)

thumbnail.asp

i think this would be a cute necklace  ($32.99) with all the dresses.  i tend to keep my accessories small and light when around sand.

you can find all these and more Made in the USA product at MiUS Collection!  and of course, we are linking this post with lindsey at the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday 🙂

What to Wear? The Wedding

12 Apr

This post is the final post of the “what to wear?” wedding series.  The wedding!  There are so many styles of weddings out there it is almost impossible to capture all in one blog post, but I will attempt to address style dilemmas for the most common scenarios.  So…which way to go first:

images-6

Let’s start with the “unwritten” rules of wedding etiquette, according to The Knot.com here are some “Dos and Don’ts” for weddings:

  • Don’t wear white because it competes with the bride. There are plenty of other colors available. This rule may seem outdated, but it’s actually just good etiquette to not compete with the bride on her special day.
  • Don’t wear black or sequins during the daytime. Anything too sparkly will make you look overdressed.
  • Don’t worry about wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids or mothers. You can’t possibly coordinate with everyone in the wedding party.
  • Do wear something feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts. Clubwear, overtly sexy clothing (strapless, see-through, etc) doesn’t belong at a wedding. If you have to ask if it’s appropriate, it probably isn’t.
  • Don’t wear opera-length gloves (to top of arm) with anything but sleeveless or strapless gowns.
  • Do take off gloves to eat or drink.
  • Do use good judgment if the invitation doesn’t specify the formality of the event. A pastel suit or soft floral dress for daytime or a LBD for evening (after 6 p.m.) will take you almost anywhere.
  • Even at a casual wedding, use good judgment when it comes to getting dressed. Casual can mean a pretty sundress (like for a coastal or beach wedding) but rarely means something as sloppy as jeans or shorts.

OK…Now that we have the Dos and Don’ts here are my style suggestions for wedding receptions based on the type:

  • Informal Daytime: Short dress or suit (business attire OK for morning weddings)
  • Informal Evening: Cocktail dress (which is any dressier dress — for example, a LBD– that’s not full-length.)
  • Semi-Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit
  • Semi-formal Evening: Cocktail dress
  • Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit. Hats and gloves optional (although it’s rare to see hats and gloves at most weddings.)
  • Formal Evening or Black-Tie: Long or dressy short cocktail (beading, glam accessories, wrap)
  • Ultra-formal or White Tie: Long gown, extra glitz (furs, diamonds, etc.)

Here are some of my picks from MiUS Collection boutique:

Informal-day time wedding:

Add a cardi and jewels to accessorize this daytime wedding appropriate frocks.

Evening/Formal Receptions:

linking up again this week with lindsey from the pleated poppy for what i wore (or in my case…what i should wear ) wednesday.

today my oldest turns six!  i would need a novel to talk about the day of her birth…needless to say it was interesting.  she is an amazingly smart and kind little girl.  she makes me laugh every day and i love seeing how responsible she is becoming as she grows up.  she also impresses me with how she takes a life threatening food allergy in stride.  happy birthday baby #1!!

anyway…purple is her favorite color so i am concentrating on some purple items in stock at …all made here in the good old USA!

20 Feb

so i am going off the beaten path here a little bit in my link up with lindsey at the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday.  usually i do what i should wear wednesday.  and i pick us out some fab finds under $50 from MiUS Collection…but today i am doing my post a little differently…

we had our second trunk show this past sunday.  it was at my parents house with a little under 20 people.  it was great for it to be so small.  it was so nice to be able to intereact with people, and because of that i saw some great merchandise!  actually worn on people!  that is the hard thing about internet shopping…you are not quite sure how something will look or fit until you try it on (but remember that MiUS has free returns!).  but man, MiUS has some great dresses that i want to show you today.  you can wear them to a party, to a wedding, to a garden party, graduation, first communion…the list is endless.

here are some of my favs that were tried on by different people (aka body types)

thumbnail.asp

multi zig zag dress $49.99

thumbnail.asp

colorful floral print dress $49.99

thumbnail.asp

surplice dress – curvy $29.99 (this runs small and looked nice on “non” curvy people too)

thumbnail.asp

turtleneck dress $39.99

thumbnail.asp

chevron print black & ivory dress $39.99

thumbnail.asp

geometric print shirt dress $45.99

thumbnail.asp

charcoal print black zig zag dress $84.99

thumbnail.asp

katie dress with belt $199.99

note: while this model is tall and skinny…you do NOT have to have that body type to pull off this dress!  some girls with a little big of curves tried it on and it looked awesome!!!  and was very soft.

thumbnail.asp

amazing zig zag $84.99

note: i am going to say this is definately a dress one should wear leggings under….it is not for the faint at heart or ultra conservatives…it is quite short….

thumbnail.asp

perfect party dress -curvy/plus $54.99

i loved all the dresses at the trunk show.  they looked great on people and they were soft and comfortable and of course all made in the usa…oh…and look…six of them fit my “under $50” criteria!  hmmmm….

happy shopping!  you can find these and other goodies at our site http://www.miuscollection.com

our second trunk show

19 Feb

on sunday we had our second trunk show.  and while my parent’s house is not as swanky as the medina location was, it was a huge hit!  my mom made a bunch of food and invited friends and friends of friends.  my dad helped us to bring stuff in and “entertain” the ladies as they arrived.  my father is very entertaining.  we did very good in sales and it was nice and intimate.  so nice that millie got to mingle with the clients and tell them more about MiUS.  it was also great because she is so good with fashion pairings and could answer everyone’s questions.

what i like about the trunk show is it is not a direct sales party.  yes, we do something nice for the hostess but you don’t need to feel obligated to buy anything.  what the trunk show does is give women the opportunity to touch and feel the clothing and accessories.  it is nice to know that buying “made in the usa” fashion can be affordable and have quality.  it is nice to have a different piece than other people have.  and it is really nice to be able to shop with friends…while sipping wine or sangria and eating yummy food.

remember…even if you don’t make it to one of our trunk shows…all MiUS merchandise has free returns.  so you can order on line…and when it gets delivered, grab a snack and some wine (just please don’t get any on your MiUS goodies) and try on in the comfort of your own home.  if it doesn’t fit or you don’t love it you can send it back.  if you have questions on what will look good with it…send an email to millie@miuscollection.com – she is good with fashion questions and loves to help.

okay…here are some happy photos from our trunk show!

the trunk show was a lot of fun.  if you are local to the cleveland area and want to have some friends over and host a trunk show for a different “girls” activity, please let us know!  we would be more than happy to set something up.  again, this is not direct sales, but it is fun and we appreciate our hostesses!!  contact carrie@miuscollection.com if you would like more information on trunk shows.

linking up again with lindsey at the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday.   i have seem more haters for the month of february lately…me…it’s not only my birthday month…its a chill month for me so i like it.  but let’s make some spring sounds over here and highlight an outfit i would consider for spring…

i am shopping off the MiUS websites “fab finds under $50” today.  have you checked it out?  it has some great stuff for under fifty bucks!  (hence the name of the page…he he)

for a spring look…i would pair this dress up with a fun colored pair of tights:

Multi Color Crochet Knit Dress - Multicolor Purple

and a cute pair of flats.

or if i wanted to smooth out those curves some i would wear some leggings:

Seamless leggings - Black

add a cute necklace...and ready to go!

Book Locket Necklace

it’s wednesday and brrrrr it’s cold here!  i like it though.  i may have said it before, but i like the change in seasons.  i think winter is a time to cozy up and take a break.  spring and summer seem so much about “going” and “running”…i like this hibernating time of the year.

so something cozy and comfy is in store.  and warm.  and decent enough to run up to the school in, or have a friend over for coffee and feel like an effort was made.

now…when i first saw this sweater i kind of thought of my dad…who has worn a black or navy cardigan at work daily for the last i don’t know how many years.  and even when i first saw it i wasn’t sure.  but picture it with a bright colored shirt underneath (maybe pull a color from the scarf and use that as your color guide for the shirt underneath??).  how cozy with some skinny pants!  i think it works.

and this scarf…i can’t tell you how much i wear this scarf.  with an outfit or outside with a jacket or coat.  it is one of my all time favorite pieces!  it is so soft and i have washed it so many times already and it holds up so well.

i am not a big jewerly wearer but i do like to throw on something.  i think a ring here makes it a little more of a put together look.

charcoal cardigan $32.99

skinny corduroy pants $49.99

fatima scarf $29.99

leather braid ring $34.99

again…linking up with lindsey from the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday!  such a fun link up party.

30 Jan

is it wednesday already?  i am linking up with lindsey at the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday.  again…mine is what i should wear. so this friday night we are having an adult party at our house!  can you believe it?  an adult party?  ok…now that i re-read that it kind of sounds kinky and like something i shouldn’t discuss openly on a blog.  so let me rephrase.  we are having adults only (no kids) at our house for a cocktail type party friday night.  i have been on pinterest like crazy.  not sure i know how to host a party without bunting and cupcakes…but i am going to try! so what should i wear??  i could go casual with a touch of edge….

2013.01.29.PicMonkey Collage

scale cuff $19.99

copper cord necklace $32.99

jeans $49.99

skull shirt $29.99

skull earrings $22.99

or…i could go dressy!!!

2013.01.29.zigzagdress

i love this dress.  i am a chevron fan.  ($42.99)

then there is this one…i know it is more for spring (and really i am not a person you would ask fashion questions to) but i love it…for some reason it reminds me a little of a 1950s style dress.  and i am a big fan of the 1950s…. ($49.99)

2013.01.29.partydress

i would likely wear these earrings ($29.99) with either dress

Petal Shaped threader earrings but what will i really wear?  well quite likely this outfit (because i have it in my closet….)

2013.01.29.2PicMonkey Collage

cocktail ring $22.99

dolman top (curvy) $24.99

skinny jeans $75.99

daisy necklace $19.99

no matter what i wear…it’s still a night with adults, no kids, cocktails, and no cupcakes!

wiSww (what i SHOULD wear wednesday) with Free Shipping Offer

16 Jan

i’m back with another installment of what i should wear wednesday.  i link up with lindsey at the pleated poppy for her what i wore wednesday installment.  but mine is what i should/would like to wear.  i also shop with a budget in mind so most of my pieces are $50 and under.

2013.01.16.wiswwPicMonkey Collage

the pants are a “coming soon” item at MiUS, but you can get an email notification when they come in.  they come in teal and charcoal.  normally, i would immediately go to the charcoal but, in this case, it would depend on what colors are in the fatima scarf.  this scarf is my favorite wardrobe piece right now (santa got it for me).  it is so soft and unique…each scarf is made out of recycled t-shirts!  so if you and i both ordered one…they would be different!  it is warm and i get a lot of compliments on it.  so see…depending on what colors are in the scarf would depend on which pants i would pair with it.

and the earrings?  my five year old recently told me that moms are supposed to wear earrings that dangle..not the tiny post earrings i normally wear.  so now i am on the hunt and purchasing some dangle like “mom” earrings.

basic cardigan $24.99

skinny corduroy pants $49.99

fatima scarf $29.99

sparrow earrings $19.99

and, of course, all MiUS products are made in the USA!  so go to the website for this scarf!!

We have an offer for free shipping today on all purchases, Enter code:Freewed16

happy wednesday!

wiSww (what i SHOULD wear wednesday)

9 Jan

i’m back with a link up to the pleated poppy for what i wore wednesday.  i just add a tiny twist…this is what i should be wearing.  i am a stay at home mama of three…i need to be comfortable and i need to shop on a budget, but i also want to look like i made some effort and look a bit put together.  i also like to buy made in the usa anytime i can..so here we go…

at MiUS we are featuring a sale on our sweaters and capes (15% off and free shipping on domestic orders over $100).  now…what i want to wear cape fashion is this:

2012.1.8.sequinsweaterponcho

hello!  you are a pretty poncho/cape/sweater.  but (sigh) you are a little out of my price range.  so let’s get back to reality…i try to keep all my items at $50 or under!  and…better yet…they are all made in the USA!

2013.1.8.wisww.PicMonkey Collage

okay…more my range.  the details?  i wasn’t too overly in love with this poncho when i first saw it on line.  and to be honest…was still a little “eh” when i saw it on a hanger.  (yea…i know the owner, so i get sneak peaks!) BUT i saw it on a friend at our trunk show and fell in love!   this is definitely one of those items that looks better on.  i will admit…the pattern is a lot for me but i think i would try it since it looked so great on ginger.

the earrings…i think this would be my only accessory since this is a pretty wild pattern for me.

the pants…well, if i was fun girl i would go with the royal blue super skinny jean.  but (ahem) i already wince at the “skinny” jean…toss “super” in there and i have to run for the hills!  haha.  so i would likely stick with my old faithful skinny jean there on the right.

details are below.  and don’t forget…our sweater and cape (poncho) sale ends on the 13th.  check the website for information and the promo code:)

sequin sweater/poncho $274.99

tribal print poncho $39.99

royal blue super skinny jeans $42.99

just usa dark skinny jean $75.99

stone earring $35.99
